Many of them have also been around for centuries, playing a significant role in the lifestyle of the people. The most important of these churches is no other than Palermo Cathedral, which has been around since 1185.
It is Palermo’s most important religious site attracting thousands of tourists and worshippers every year. Among notable artifacts in the building is the Byzantine corona of Constance of Aragon, the wife of Frederick II king of Germany and Sicily. Other churches worth seeing in the city include Cappella Palatina, San Giovanni Degli Eremiti, and Church of Santa Maria Dell’Ammiraglio.
