Apart from its role in the industrial revolution, Birmingham gave the world many gadgets and inventions that have transformed history. Hall Edwards started a new clinical method in medicine on February 14, 1896, when he invented the X-Ray scanner. Cameras without which we will not have many of our history and culture in images and motion picture is from Birmingham. Mathematician and computer scientist Conway Berners-Lee was born in Birmingham and was among the team that introduced Ferranti Mark 1, the first commercially-available electronic computer. Other inventions from the city include microphone, whistle, windshield, stapler, pen, microwave oven, electric kettle, and vacuum cleaner.
