Located in Arizona, Grand Canyon National Park accommodates several layered strips of red rock which reveals the geological past of many years back. The nice view areas in the park include Yavapai Observation Station, Mather Point, Architect Mary Colter’s Desert View Watchtower and her Lookout Studio. Places often visited to catch a glimpse of sunrise and sunset are the Colorado River and Lipan Point. Long before we appeared on the planet (specifically about 6 million years ago), the Colorado River was already there. And it was already digging its channel in the mountains of the American West. In the lands of what is now Arizona. And despite the fact that the Colorado runs along more than 2,000 km, from the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of California, what we know as the Grand Canyon, and that is where the rock has been excavated to depths of more than 1,500 meters, it’s only 450 kilometers. There is evidence that the region was inhabited for more than 3,000 years. But the first written records were those left by the Spanish after their first expedition to the area in the 16th century. Later they sent, without much success, some mission to evangelize the local tribes. Although it was not until the nineteenth century that the Americans, in their unstoppable conquest of the west, reached the canyon again. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
