Obviating the millions of pigeons that inhabit its pavement, this plaza acts as it is supposed to: as the center of the city. Basically it is the consequence of a nineteenth century project that sought to respond to the challenge marked by its cathedral. The architect Giuseppe Mengoni went to work to balance this inequality with palaces, galleries and triumphal arches of access to the new room.
