The Eye of the Sahara is one of the famous landmarks in Mauritania. The monument popular called the Richat Structure is an imposing circular building located very close to the ghost city of Oudane. This Ottoman style architecture forms a unique bull’s eye when viewed from outer space. For this reason, astronauts used the building as their geographical landmark whenever they passed through the Sahara. Due to the effect of years and desert weather on the structure, it has shed layers which led to its flatness.
