Centuries ago the Medici family, Italy’s prominent and banking and political dynasty, once lived here. Along with the Boboli gardens, this museum offers visitors a unique insight into the history, culture, and tradition of the Republic of Florence and Italy. Now, the museum has been divided into numerous wings and galleries, housing as many as 500 Renaissance paintings. Within the building, you’ll find a rich and worthy collection of works that include The Granduca Madonna, Woman with a Veil, and La Donna Gravida, all made by Raphael. The most exquisite rooms are the small rooms decorated by Pietro da Cortona in the high baroque style. Palazzo Pitti is truly a pride to the people of Florence.
