One of the Christmas traditions of Italy most famous and widespread in the world, is the Nativity Scene! The first that has been recorded is the one ordered by Francis of Assisi in Greccio (Lazio) on Christmas Eve of 1223. And how was it? It was a living Bethlehem, with ox and donkeys, in whose cradle one of the gentlemen who attended the mass officiated by Francisco affirmed to see the authentic baby Jesus.
