Mont Saint Michel is a place that is very different based on when you visit because tide affects if it’s in the middle of the sea or in the middle of a massive beach. What’s always the case is that the castle is incredibly beautiful and picturesque. It’s what fairy tales are made of. Built from the year 708, mainly as a place of worship for the Archangel Saint Michael (hence its name), it was transformed into an important pilgrimage place on the continent. Later, in the 10th century, the Benedictine order began the construction of the abbey on the rock of the mount, which later became an important area of resistance against the English invasion in the 14th and 15th centuries due to its walled construction. A prison during the French Revolution, and was even abandoned in the late 18th century. Today it shows all its splendor both outside and inside. Visiting the Mont Saint-Michel abbey is contemplating its three-storey architecture and 20 rooms in the Gothic and Romanesque style, built incredibly on the rock and surrounded by walls, 80 meters high that can be seen from several kilometers away. At the top of the old building, the figure of the Archangel Saint Michael stands out.
