Although Torridon village is conveniently located near the slopes of Liathach, which is also the best known settlement in the area, Shieldaig, however, is the most beautiful. This place has self-catering cottages that should be ideal for those who love to walk along this picturesque location. We arrive at the picturesque fishing village of Shieldaig, whose houses face the lake of the same name, with an island close to the thing and crystal clear dark blue water. The history of the town is interesting, since it was established to defend Scotland from Napoleon, in case it reached that far north, but after the Battle of Waterloo it never happened. Today it is famous for its mussels and as a learning place for sailors. The island is full of pine trees, which provided wood for ship masts and fishing nets; today it is protected and has populations of herons, owls and kestrels.
