Another lovely town with medieval airs is Dolceacqua, or Dulceagua, in the province of Imperia. Of Roman past, it is situated very near the border with France, and was part of this country during some period of its history. It is known for its beautiful stone bridge and the rocks on which it sits. This medieval town in Italian Liguria in the province of Imperia, located on the margins of the city of Ventimiglia, is located about 120 kilometers from Genoa and is divided in two by the Nervia river. Its oldest part, dominated by the Doria castle, is called Terra and is located at the foot of Mount Rebuffao. The newest part of the town, called il Borgo, is located on the opposite bank along the road that runs through the valley. The trip to Dolceaqua will not disappoint you, with its narrow streets full of history and its beautiful old part that still retains many original features, such as its cobbled streets and many alleys. At the top of the town the views are fabulous, it is definitely a magical and mysterious place. When you walk through its labyrinthine streets you will understand why Claude Monet was dazzled after visiting Dolceacqua and chose it as the subject in many of his paintings. His favorite place was the Romanesque bridge.
