As the world celebrates Christmas so also does the Italian. Christmas marks the birthday of Jesus and is usually spent with family and big meals. Churches hold masses, and there are nativity scenes scattered all over the place. On Christmas day almost every place is closed. As a tourist, you would need to book for restaurants ahead because many will be closed as well.
