Parmesan cheese, in addition to mozzarella, should be one of the best known outside of Italy and one of the easiest to find in supermarkets around the world. The authentic Parmesan is made with cow’s milk and comes from the northern part of Italy, specifically from the areas of Parma, Emilia Romagna, Modena, Bologna and Mantua and its origin is linked to the Benedictine monasteries that were in the area the twelfth century.
