Mexicans are known for celebrating the dead. They set a day aside, the 1st of November every year to celebrate the day of the dead. Mexicans create shrines called Ofrenda to celebrate their loved ones who have passed on. Food, drinks, candles, flowers, and pictures of the deceased are usually used to decorate the Ofrenda. See the International Day of the Dead Parade. This is a fairly recent event, promoted since 2015, whose main scenario is Mexico City. This year it will take place on October 27 and the Zócalo will have its place of departure. It is a very colorful celebration in which hundreds of participants parade wearing the most unexpected outfits. A fantasy display worth experiencing. In addition, in this parade the two faces of Mexico, the indigenous and the European, are shown, so along with people dressed as Spanish conquerors you can see people dancing with Mexican clothes. And all seasoned with all kinds of paraphernalia such as balloons and floats. Visit the cemetery. Yes, we know that the title may have been somewhat sinister, but believe us: it is one of the most impressive shows of Day of the Dead. The living go to the graves of their dead relatives to make all kinds of offerings, which include food, flowers, skulls and even messages written on paper. All illuminated by the dim candlelight. Look especially at os cempasúchil, flowers that relatives defoliate on the tombstones, a discreet action but of a touching beauty. Everything on the Day of the Dead is of a seductive ambiguity: celebration of death, joy and reverence, celebration and memory of deceased relatives.. you will not regret going through one of these graveyards!
