Thessaloniki is a refreshing and inspiring place thanks to the many urban sculptures that can be found everywhere in the city. There are at least 150 busts or statues representing ancient heroes, political leaders, artists, religious leaders, and military commanders. The most famous sculpture is the equestrian statue of Alexander the Great, which is on the promenade. Other sculptures of interest that tourists love to explore are Eleftherios Venizelos by sculptor Giannis Pappas, Pavlos Melas, the statue of Emmanouel Pappas, and Chrysostomos of Smyrna by Athanasios Apartis.
