Bwindi National Park can be found in the Bwindi dense Forest located in Uganda’s border and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, this site can only be accessed by foot. It boasts of a diverse wildlife, which includes about 348 bird species, 120 mammal species, 27 frog species, and 220 butterfly species. You can also find geckos and chameleons in the park. There are only three places in the world where gorillas can be seen in freedom: Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. The first has several conflicts still active, in addition to a fairly severe outbreak of Ebola. The second charges about € 1,500 to see gorillas (more than double that in Uganda). So Uganda is presented as the best alternative to see these incredible animals up close. The trekking to see gorillas in Uganda takes place in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a virgin forest declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco to ensure its protection. And it is that this forest is one of the areas with more biological biodiversity on Earth and, in addition, it houses half the population of mountain gorillas in the world. As I was saying, this is one of the most diverse tropical forests. It is 25,000 years old and contains about 400 species of plants. In addition, it offers protection to a large number of animals: about 400 mountain gorillas, 120 mammals such as baboons or chimpanzees, elephants and antelopes and up to 350 species of birds.
