Most of the incredibly devastating and large tsunami’s in the list were caused by a big earthquake in the middle of the sea. That’s the case for the one in Sumatra in 2004 where a 9.1 magniturde earthquake occurred. The waves of the tsunami that day are said to have been 50m tall and they reached over 5 km inland.
