7Alcatraz Water Tower, San Francisco, California

This might be an ordinary looking water tower, but this one is located in the island of Alcatraz. The structure has been counted among the coolest water towers in the world. It might be because one of the top attractions in San Francisco is the island of Alcatraz. During the 1969 Occupation, the water tower was ceremoniously painted and the message was “Peace and freedom, you are welcome in the land of the Indians” and it is important because all the ships that surround the Island are able to see the message from above. Remember that “the conservation of the tower was an important monument to remember our history and our efforts.” The tower is an important reminder since there was never an official museum built. Likewise, the partnership with the Park Service has been a commitment to maintaining the ceremonies on Alcatraz Island and provides a gathering place to share the story and discuss the problems that Native Americans still face today.
