Considered as the heart of Venice, this is where you’ll find the bulk of attractions in the city. The architecturally brilliant Piazza San Marco (St Mark’s Square) is located here and provides lots of options for dining, shopping and sightseeing. The dominant structure on the square is of course, St Mark’s Basilica. Other attractions here include the Doge’s Palace, La Fenice Theatre and the Torre dell’Orologio (Clock Tower) which you can ascend for an overview of the piazza.
