These days, the principle danger on this mountain (which is 14,691 feet high) is its popularity, with overeager tourists who will likely send loose rocks onto the heads of their fellow climbers below. This is a pretty dangerous peak to reach. Matterhorn Mountain, this beautiful, almost symmetrical pyramid, located in the Pennine Alps area on the border between Switzerland and Italy, from the tectonic action of the African plate to the European one 100 million years ago. The mountain is thought to have had a rounded shape, but the glacier slide and erosion over the years have transformed it into a four-faced pyramidal shape, meeting at four points aligned with the horizontal points. The western face is connected to the eastern one by a mountain ridge about 100 meters long, on which is the border between Switzerland and Italy. This beautiful pyramid-shaped mountain, which greets the Swiss city of Zermatt and the beautiful Italian town of Breuil-Cervinia, on the south side of the pyramid, is a major tourist attraction through the rise of cable cars, trains, refreshments and improved trails. Since the first attempt to climb Matterhorn in 1865 by Zermatt, where four people were killed, and to date about 500 people have lost their lives, ranking it as one of the most dangerous mountains. However, Matterhorn Mountain remains one of the mountains with great tourist traffic. Click the next ARROW to see the next image!
