The Ear of Dionysius also known as the Orecchio di Dionisio is located at Siracusa in Sicily. It was initially a quarry for limestone. Caravaggio named it after he visited Sicily in the 16th century. The cave bears a semblance to an auricle and its extraordinary echo. Myth has it that Dionysius was able to hear the faintest sounds of his enemies’ voices and movements while in the cave. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
