The Yosemite National Park is renowned for its age-old giant sequoia trees, Tunnel Viewing, granite cliffs, Half Dome, and the Bridalveil Fall. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful and popular national parks in the world. You can go to the restaurants, accommodations, shops, Ansel Adams Gallery, and the Yosemite Museum situated in Yosemite village. Yosemite National Park is located in the Sierra Nevada of California and covers an area of 3,029 km2. The area that the park occupies today was inhabited by different Indian tribes (mainly Ahwahnechee) until the mid-19th century, when they were expelled and almost annihilated in the Butterfly War (1850-51). The word Yosemite comes from the term “Yohhe’meti” and means “those who kill,” an expression used by some Miwok tribes to refer to their violent neighbors in Yosemite Valley. Although Yosemite was protected by Abraham Lincoln in 1864, it was established as a National Park in 1890, becoming by then one of the top ten national parks in the world. Almost a century later, in 1984, it was declared a World Heritage Site. Yosemite receives about 4 million tourists a year, who come attracted by its most characteristic elements: impressive rock formations, giant sequoias, wild animals, lakes of glacial origin, waterfalls, etc. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
