The great canal of Panama is designated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as one of the “Seven (7) Wonders of the Modern World and a Monument of the Millennium”. The canal was built between 1904 and 1914 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. On August 15, 1914, the cargo ship named Ancon was the first ship to pass through the canal.
