8Old Lady, Szeged, Hungary

Not all cities have a water tower that brings much pride and amusement to the residents. The locals named the beautiful water tower of the city of Szeged as the Old Lady. Perhaps it is how it resembles as an old woman wearing a dress. Szeged is the third city in Hungary by population after Budapest and Debrecen. It is located near the borders with Serbia and Romania, and 170 kilometers from the Hungarian capital. It is known as “A napfény városa” in Hungarian, or “La ciudad del sol” in Spanish, because it is one of the Hungarian regions that enjoys more hours of sunshine per year. The next stop is Szent István tér and its spectacular water tower (nowadays only for tourist use, but which once stored the water extracted from the aquifers). If it’s open (it only does a few days), you can see an exhibition on the tower, the floods of Szeged and go up to the top, where there are spectacular views of the city with the ancient nomadic houses (the gyurta) in the background. It is a good historical option to end our walk through Szeged. Click the next ARROW to see the next image!
