The harbor in the beautiful village of Tobermory has been lined with houses that are multi-colored. Due to its popularity and picturesque nature, it became a subject in many postcards. Likewise, it is better known to be one of the featured villages in a BBC TV series. The colorful houses of the port of Tobermory are, without a doubt, one of the most famous pictures of the place and a must-see on the Isle of Mull. Otherwise, a visit to Tobermory is an essential since, with its barely a thousand inhabitants, it is the island’s capital. It was founded in 1778 as a fishing village and legend has it that in the waters of its charming port lies a Spanish galleon overflowing with gold. Nothing has ever been found, however! The attractions of Tobermory are, in addition to the port, the whiskey distillery, the aquarium, the Mull Museum, several fish and seafood restaurants, the beautiful Isle of Mull Cheese cafe and such desirable shops as Tobermory Fish Company, Island Blue Gallery or Tobermory Chocolate.
