This is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, it is the typical medieval borgo located on a magnificent rock that was natural protection. It is located in the province of Viterbo. Civitá di Bagnoregio is a small Italian town located in the northern part of the Lazio Region, between the cities of Viterbo and Orvieto. Cività di Bagnoregio is one of the most fascinating and charming towns in Italy because in its small historical center it seems that time has passed. That is why it is on the list of the most beautiful Villages in Italy. Something that makes Civitá di Bagnoregio such a touristly attractive place is that it is almost abandoned: it has only 8 inhabitants, and that’s why they call it “The city that dies” because it rises 443 meters high, on top of a hill of clay and is suffering a slow but inexorable crumbling due to the action of atmospheric phenomena such as wind, rain and underground instability. The town of Cività di Bagnoregio is located in the heart of the area called “Valle dei Calanchi”, a very curious and suggestive place for its panoramas. Geological studies have shown that in the last 100 years the height of Civitá di Bagnoregio has decreased by approximately 25 centimeters, and the erosion suffered by the walls means that the edges decrease by approximately 7 centimeters per year. That is, little by little, the palaces and buildings of the small town will crumble until they disappear. Click the next ARROW to see the next photo!
