Strategically located atop an isolated cliff in Lazio, this is considered as one of the most impressive of all the Italian villages. It has also earned the name, “citta che moure” or “dying city”, it can be reached by walking the bridge or riding a scooter. If you are a lover of the small medieval villages perched on top of the rolling hills, Civita di Bagnoregio (Lazio, province of Viterbo) will surely be to your liking as it is one of the most spectacular villages in Italy. Less well-known than many other medieval cities like Orvieto or Montepulciano, this little gem has escaped the modern age. In the center of «Etruria», Civita di Bagnoregio is a small place for those who love to spend a weekend among hills and good food. Despite its sad name, Civita has not disappointed us. In fact, the peculiarity of this ancient town is that it is located on top of a hill in the Calanchi Valley, whose base of support is being reduced more and more due to the continuous erosion of the rocks on which it has been built. What remains of the city is at the top of a pinnacle that rises above a grand canyon and the only way to get in or out is to cross a bridge only on foot, by bike or by special means.
