This structure has been claimed to be the largest catsup bottle on the planet. However, it is indeed a water tower that was built in 1949 in order to supply water to a catsup plant nearby. Although the factory closed in 1993, the water tower remained as volunteers chose to repair and restore it. The South Collinsville, Illinois water tower is the world’s largest ketchup bottle. It was built in 1949 to supply water to a nearby plant owned by G.S. Suppiger Company. Its president suggested that the water tower be designed to resemble one of the company’s ketchup bottles. The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places in August 2002. The world’s largest ketchup bottle is a rock star. It has its own website, fan club and annual festival. It also has a role in promoting a healthy lifestyle. A walking club has a Catsup Bottle Water Tower Walk, and the bottle is the focus of an event called the Big Bottle Bicycle Ride. Today, the W.E. Caldwell Company is Caldwell Tanks. G.S. Suppiger no longer exists; merged with the P.J. Ritter in 1959. Click the next ARROWÂ to see the next image!
